Sullivan Land Services Assists in UTMB Tree Removal PDF Print E-mail

alt Sullivan Land Services, Ltd. was selected by The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston to remove more than 500 trees that were killed by the salty storm surge of Hurricane Ike. The trees were not only aesthetically unappealing, but they also became a liability for UTMB, as most were hanging over roadways, parking lots and pedestrian sidewalks.

All of the dead trees were inspected, tagged and monitored by FEMA and UTMB during the tree removal and transportation to the chipping site. After all of the trees were cut down and their stumps were removed, the vegetative debris was chipped through SLS’s tub grinder, generating thousands of cubic yards of wood chips that will be used for UTMB landscaping efforts. SLS provided a “cradle to grave solution” for UTMB, which not only removed potential hazards from the campus, but also provided UTMB with a mulch product that could be used to beautify the campus in the future.

SLS also worked with UTMB to save some of the wood from the nostalgic live oak trees for the future. Some of the larger trees, such as the “Blocker Oaks” and the Cottonwood trees will be preserved by UTMB for making pens, conference tables, benches and other commemorative items.
